An Advent Observation

If you pray Liturgy of the Hours, you will remember today’s reading at Lauds, Isaiah 2:3-4, “Come let us climb the Lord’s mountain…” Reading this today, I had to stop for a moment and think where I had heard this before. Then it hit me. My very first trip to Rome, the very first time I was to enter St. Peter’s Basilica, the words stuck out to me and I have thought of them ever since.

I first saw the words at Bernini’s colonnade. You see this phrase hanging just past the entrance to the Apostolic Palace. It is a combination of Isaiah 2:3 and Psalm 137:2. “Come let us climb the Lord’s mountain…Let us adore Him in his holy temple”:
